In which your humble narrator decries weasel-speak.
Why is it socially acceptable to be insulting, insensitive or condescending if you preface your remarks by uttering "with all due respect?" I suggest we encourage our elected officials to avoid weaselly idioms.
After watching a few clips of last week's White House health summit I'm convinced we should replace "with all due respect" with, "bitches, please," 'cause you know that's what they're all thinking.*
Except for John Boehner who is thinking about cigarettes, and Joe Biden who is thinking about, oh I don't know... maybe waffles. And Amtrak.
My general feeling is that if you have to preface something with "with all due respect", you probably shouldn't say it. Same goes for "not that I'm racist, but..."
